Montreal-based developer Borealys Games is piecing together a magical world for us all, which will host an intricate and wondrous tale woven by Ed Greenwood, creator of The Forgotten Realms D&D universe. In Mages of Mystralia, players will traverse this world as Zia, a novice mage whose powers caused her to be exiled from her home. This unfortunate mishap may actually be the foundation of the greatest quest in her life. In this dangerous and dreamy world, there’s plenty adventure to be had. As Zia is forced out of the kingdom, she will set out to hone her skills as a mage, gaining better control over her powers and even learning new spells, building blocks that pave the way to creating her own spells with a unique set of effects! Zia is not alone in this exile however, as there are other mages who have also been cast out of their homelands for similar reasons. Perhaps she can forge a new family with those she meets under like circumstances?
To get better acquainted with the world in Mages of Mystralia, a webcomic has been written and illustrated as a prelude to educate you on the backstory of the game. The world is literally ruled by mages, how could there be a more magical world to immerse yourself in? It all begins when the kingdom of Mystralia is attacked by a band of plague trolls. Even those who survived the catastrophe weren’t so fortunate, as the plague brought on by the trolls had spread, causing a decline in the overall quality of life in the kingdom of Mystralia. With the plague dwindling down the health of the population and the war against the trolls causing the subjects to relocate their “homes”, the kingdom is in a dire situation. The newly-appointed king, who was crowned as the only surviving member of the royal family after the attack, is digging through the arcane records to strengthen his own magical power. But to what gain? Is he going mad with power or is this a desperate attempt at saving the kingdom by himself?
